Balfe Aims For More Silverware in Valencia
The Balfe Motorsport team heads to Valencia next weekend (September 9-12) to compete in the latest round of the Spanish GT Championship. The team has already tasted victory this season and aims to bring back more silverware from the twisty venue.
The Newark Glass Group backed squad is hoping to return to the winners circle in Spain after a superb return to the British GT Championship a two weeks ago, when drivers Shaun Balfe and Nigel Taylor took a pole position and second place starting positions for the two races before leading the majority of the opening race.
Contact with a Ferrari at 150mph caused the withdrawal of the Mosler MT900R as the team needed to prepare the car for its latest Spanish outing. However, the car is ready to go and Shaun Balfe believes that the development work the team has been carrying out and the tight, twisty nature of the Valencia circuit should play into the team's hands next weekend.
"The track should definitely suit us as the car is great around the tight corners," said Balfe. "The layout means that out and out horsepower shouldn't be necessary and we have out-performed some of the quicker Spanish GT regulars on tighter circuits this year. Our first win of the year was at a similar venue, at Albecete," he added.
"We will definitely be going out there with the intention to step onto the podium once again. It is not beyond our reach to take another race victory and that will be our ultimate aim, as always," added Balfe.
The team currently lies second in the overall championship after a string of good results over the first half of the season. The Spanish series took a break of two months before the final three rounds (five races) spread over September, October and early November.
