Balfe Team Has Mixed Qualifying Performance

The Balfe Motorsport Team will start the opening two races of the Spanish GT Championship in Albacete from 3rd and 7th position after mixed fortunes in qualifying this afternoon (April 24).

Shaun Balfe managed to set a time of 1m 32.719s, just a tenth of a second outside the current lap record for the venue, to take third place for the opening race, despite contact with a Porsche in the middle of the session.

Team-mate Nigel Taylor suffered from increased temperatures and a more slippery surface to end the second qualifying session in seventh position.

The team is happy with progress it has made over the last two days in testing and that both drivers have a consistently fast race pace and should be in the hunt for a good finishing position in both races.

"We believe that we have the pace for a strong top six finish at each race, but a podium result would be great," said Shaun Balfe. "We are looking forward to the races, especially the first one tonight as the atmosphere should be great. We will go out and do the best we can and see what happens," he added.

The opening race of the championship is set to take place this evening at 8pm (Spanish time).
