Croydon Gets First International GT Podium in Bahrain

Kent (UK) based GT driver Rob Croydon scored his maiden International GT2 Class podium in Bahrain this weekend, at the Allcomers GT festival.

The backed driver, partnered with Adam Sharpe in the Tech 9 Motorsport run Porsche GT3 had their fair share of problems over the course of the 4 race event, meaning that they missed the first 2 races because extra parts were being flown over from the UK.

Thrilled with the result Croydon commented "We came with the intention of taking a trophy home but after missing the first 2 races of the weekend our chances looked bleak. Phil (Hindley) told us that we could still do it and we did! With 1 lap to go on the final race we were 4th but we got back some of the luck we lost earlier in the meeting and got 3rd on the final lap. To say we are ecstatic is an understatement".

He continued "Neither Adam or I had driven the circuit before and I started the 3rd race from the back having only completed 5 laps prior to the start, and Adam started race 4 having done just 4 so it was tough for both if us. I probably overtook more cars than I had done all season up to now so hopefully it shows what I can do in a good car".

Regarding his team mate he added "Adam was great and his brilliant start in the final showed he fears nothing. He was unlucky to have received contact from another car which spun him around, as potentially we could well have come 2nd in class in the final behind the factory Porsche".

"The Bahrain result was a great way to end the season. Next year I will be back in GTs of some form again. I want to thank Phil and the team for their efforts. It was also Tech 9's best International result so I am pleased to be a part of that".
