Panoz dedicates New Road Atlanta Track

Braselton, Ga. May 24th 1998- Don Panoz held a re-opening ceremony today at Road Atlanta for the media, local dignitaries and guests.

The event which was catered by Chateau Elan (Panozs nearby four-star resort) included speeches, displays and tours of the track.

Georgia Govenor Zell Miller thanked Panoz for his interest and investment in Georgia and Hall County. Renovations and promotions have brought jobs nd money to the area.

On display were the limited-production high-preformance Panoz sports cars built in nearby Winder. The racing Panozs are in France for the pre-qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and California for testing.

Guests were driven around the course in Nissan 300-ZXs used by the the tracks driving school. The track has been reconfigured into three separate courses. First, a 2.6-mile Grand Prix Course which is to be FIA approved. Second, a 1.25 Club Course and third, a shorter 1-mile School Course.

The facility contains 300,000 square feet of paved paddock and 80,000 square feet of garage space. Grandstands are being added in the near future. Hospitality suites and Chalets are being updated and expanded.

In a short speech, Panoz spoke of future events he is trying to attract. Having announced a “petit” Le Mans later this year, he hopes to schedule CART and World Superbike races in 1999. He also trying to secure an FIA-GT Endurance race (held now at his other track, Sebring) and ultimately Formula One.
