Avila aiming high at Macau
Macanese racing driver Rodolfo Avila will be aiming for a top result this weekend, as the brand new Macau GT Cup debut on the annual Macau Grand Prix, to be held from November 13-16.
The invitational Macau GT Cup boasts strong field of thirty six sportscar drivers who compete in the region and further afield. Macanese driver and newly-crowned Asia Supercar Challenge champion makes his sportscar debut at Macau in a Ferrari 430 GT. The 21-year old driver has raced in single seaters at Macau for several years, but this will be his first outing in a GT car here.
Speaking about his first GT race in Macau, 2008 ASCC champion said, "This is my home race. Macau has always been very special for me so I want to perform as well as we can. I know there are chances for a good result, but Macau is a track where it's difficult to try a prediction. Being quick is not enough; you need a bit of luck and to avoid any kind of mistake. It's very important to begin the weekend with a careful and respectful approach."
The confident Macau SAR driver eyes a place among the front runners. "There are a lot of cars in the grid so for sure there will be some very competitive drivers. Most of them have more experience in tin top cars but I will do my best to make sure I'm up there with them. I hope everything goes well and I can finish in the top 5 or even a podium", he held.
Avila had a chance to drive the Mastercar Italy's Ferrari 430 at the Franciacorta Circuit in Italy before the car was shipped to Asia. "I had a taste of the new car in Italy and I can say my new car is much better then the car I drove all year (360 Modena GT). I hope the car will behave well in the Guia Circuit. Macau is a very tricky circuit, with limited opportunities for overtaking so qualifying will be more important than ever", said the driver sponsored by Macau Government, MacauSlot.com, BNU, TsingTao, Fat Siu Lau Restaurant, Sujika Crafts and RP Macau.
Macau GT Cup Qualifying will take place at 10.50 on Saturday, 15th November, while the 10 lap race will get underway at 10.30 on Sunday, 16th November.
