2001 Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy
Round 7 - Valencia (E) - October 27/28
Podium for World Superbike Star, Troy Corser in Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy Debut
Australian World Superbike star, Troy Corser made a stunning Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy debut this weekend at the seventh and final round in Valencia, Spain. Corser gave the regular GTR Supertrophy competitors a good run for their money taking a third place podium position in Race Two on Sunday and a fourth place finish in Race One on Saturday.
More used to two wheels than four, the Monaco based rider put his knowledge of the circuit to good use in qualifying and lined up second on the grid. After a hair-raising dash to the first corner, Corser soon settled in to a good rhythm and took the chequered flag in fourth place.
"That was just something else going into the first corner," Corser exclaimed later. "But once I got through I really started to have fun. It was great."
However, Corser's crowning moment of glory came on Sunday when he took a brilliant and well earned third place podium position. Certainly not a Lamborghini "rookie" - he owns two of the magnificent machines himself - Corser took obvious enjoyment in handling the 590-brake horse powered, V12 engined Diablo GTR used in the championship.
"What a great race! I felt very comfortable and although I had a bit of a moment in the second race on the back section of the circuit, I soon got it back. I had lots of fun and would certainly like to come back and do this again," concluded Corser.
