India starts fourth for final GT Academy race

The two remaining Indian competitors will start today's final Nissan GT Academy Asia race from fourth position.

Akshay Gupta and Shantanu Kallianpurkar are the two finalists from India who will race against eight other finalists from Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Japan.

Dhruv Dayal was the third member to have been eliminated from the team on the fifth day in the 370Z hot lap competition.

The fourth day saw a Sand Buggy Challenge at working sand quarry in Leighton Buzzard which has been used for famous Hollywood movie shooting.

The five contestant from each country were declared safe for the finals while two other competitors had to battle it out on the fifth day for a place in the final.

The fifth day saw the 370Z hot lap event at Silverstone during morning hours where five more were eliminated including Dayal. The difference between the winner and loser was only five tenth of a second.

The evening event was the Nissan Micra stock car relay race at Northampton International Raceway under floodlights which decided the grid position for the final race.

The Philippines driver started the stock car race leading Indonesia while India fought with Thailand and Japan for third place.

As the track got wetter the Indian driver attempted a manoeuvre down the inside of the Thai driver which put them both in the wall. The Indian driver managed to recover under yellow flags as the Thai team retired.

After the restart, the Philippines driver ran into the Indian driver which ended their race and in the end only Indonesia and Japan completed the race.

Indonesia will start from pole with Japan in second, Philippines third, India fourth and Thailand fifth. The race proceedings along with live commentary will be available at NISMO.tv from 14:30 BST / 19:00 IST.
