SCUDERIA PLAYTEAM SARAFREE wraps up two wins at Brands Hatch over the weekend.
Andrea Montermini and Michele Maceratesi (Ferrari F430 no. 1) emerged as winners in an unpredictable race, after leaving respectively in fourth and fifth place. This result completed the perfect weekend for the Playteam SaraFree Ferrari team at the fifth event of the season at Brands Hatch.
This is the third win of the season for the Italian pair and the sixth for the team. Starting from pole for race 1, Scuderia Playteam SaraFree on the Ferrari 430s nr 3 had already won the race. In race 1, it was Max Busnelli and Mauro Massironi. They were not lucky in race 2 and dropped out during the lap 2 after a contact with the Mosler in the second lap of the race.
Michele Maceratesi had a good start and passed two cars. He dominated the race since Busnelli-Massironi in the other car already had to stop at lap 3, when Massironi and Guerrero contacted resulting in the Ferrari flying off into the gravel. The safety car was out for 4 laps. It left the track shortly before the driver change window. When everybody was done, Montermini was leading, 6" ahead of Sundberg and 9" ahead of Terting. The second part of the race was a trouble-free session, with Montermini slightly increasing the gap, lap after lap, thus maintaining a strong rhythm that allowed him to dominate the race until the chequered flag.
Andrea Montermini stated:"I want to dedicate the race to the mechanics in the team. They have worked so hard on my car. I also dedicate the win to my team-mate Michele Maceratesi who took such a good start of the race."
"I am very happy about the result of the race." continued Andrea Montermini . "My start was perfect -- just like in Oschersleben. Possibly superior! I passed two competitors right away and remained behind Lietz. We were able to dig the gap with the rest of the pack. Then as I was maintainting my second position, I gave the car to Andrea. We then took advantage of the of the Porsche's handicap to pass. I want to thank the team for their help during this weekend during days and nights. But what a result!".
Max Busnelli continued: "As for me I am quite disappointed. We could have had the opportunity to close the championship here. But it did not work this way. I do not know what to say. But I am confident that we will be strong again for next race and it will work out this time."
Mauro Massironi explained his race: "Guerrero was suddenly all over me. It was a dangerous move because in the curve it is impossible to overtake. I would have liked to have scored points. It was so important for the Championship. It could have been a really nice race. Our third fastest time in the warm-up was very promising. I am sorry for my teammate Max and for the team. There was just nothing I could do to avoid the accident." In the Championship standings, Lietz-Camathias (Autorlando Porsche) retain their lead (109 points) ahead of Montermini-Maceratesi (96) and Busnelli-Massironi and Livio-Pasini (tied at 95).
