GT4 Asia Cup
GT Racing in Asia is set to expand with the introduction of the GT4 Asia Cup by the Region's leading Motorsport promoter Motorsport Asia. The GT4 Asia Cup will be a welcome addition to the Asian Festival Of Speed alongside the already popular GT3 Asia Series.
The new series is part of an agreement between the SRO Motorsports Group and Motorsport Asia that sees the extension of the rapidly expanding GT4 category to Asia, joining the GT4 European Cup and its franchise, the Dutch GT4 Championship.
The GT4 Asia Cup will run according to the SRO regulations and homologation procedures.
The GT4 Asia Cup will be run over 6 Events incorporating 2 x 40 minute races per weekend, for a total of 12 races. Each race will have a mandatory pit stop and competitors have the choice of either a single driver or two-driver entry. (Single drivers will execute a timed stop for equality).
The GT4 Asia Cup will begin at the Sepang International Circuit as part of the Asian Festival Of Speed Event on May 15th-16th and will visit five of the leading Circuits in Asia including the new Formula 1 circuit in Jeongnam, Korea.
Motorsport Asia already has significant interest for this new category which is open to cars in the GT4 class such as the Aston Martin GT4 and N24, Audi TT, BMW Z4M Coupe and E92 M3, Lotus Evora, Corvette C6, Ginetta G50 GT4, Maserati Gran Turismo and Trofeo, Nissan 350Z and 370Z, Porsche 997 GT3 RS, Mustang GT500C, Jaguar XKR GT4 and in Supersport, the Doonkervort D8GT, KTM X/Bow, Lotus 2/Eleven and Exige and Peugeot Spider 207, with more joining the list every day.
The GT4 Asia Cup will receive Global Television coverage through the existing AFOS TV platform, with 15,200 minutes of TV coverage broadcast to over 623 million potential viewers in over 100 Countries.

SRO introduced GT4 in 2007 with the objective of encouraging Manufacturers, constructors or tuners to prepare cars for large production GT racing. This objective was met and the category has been growing in popularity ever since, with more and more Manufacturers introducing GT4 eligible cars. In addition, the Supersport category (for cars under 100kgs) was introduced as an access formula for smaller Manufacturers.
SRO have implemented a method of performance balancing to provide a level and competitive playing field amongst all the different makes to ensure close and exciting racing. Additionally, the GT4 Regulations provide a highly cost effective platform, with limited modifications allowed.
