Honda Integra Type R'a Put Through The Paces
Location: Darlington Park Raceway, Peachey Rd, Yatala, QLD
Time: Wednesday October 24 from 12.30pm to 3.00pm
The ten young drivers selected for the Gillette Young Guns at this year's Honda Indy 300 will be hitting the track tomorrow for their first familiarisation session in the brand new Honda Integra Type R's that have been prepared for this weekend's racing.
The session will be conducted at Darlington Park Raceway and will be the only opportunity the drivers have to test the cars before taking them out onto the Gold Coast street circuit.
The session will commence at 12.30pm with a briefing conducted veteran Australian driver Greg Crick, before the drivers are let out onto the track.
Drivers in the category are V8 drivers Dean Canto, Adam Macrow and Owen Kelly; Formula Ford's Wil Power and Jamie Whincup; GTP Astra driver Luke Youlden; Karting's Mark Winterbottom and Troy Hunt and; Formula 3's Peter Hackett and James Manderson.
The Gillette Young Guns will take to the track in brand new and identical Honda Integra Type Rs. Minor modifications will include the removal of 50kg of parts like the rear seat and spare wheel, to make way for a full roll cage and other safety equipment. The cars will be supplied Honda Australia with the support of sponsors Falken Tyres and Conrad Jupiters.
On Thursday drivers will experience the Honda Indy 300 track for the first time, with two practice sessions scheduled, before qualifying on Friday, and the two 20 minute races scheduled for Saturday at 8.40am and Sunday at 11.20am. The Gillette Young Guns are racing for a $10,000 first prize.
