Team Modena Ready to Race at Rockingham and score another victory in Korea
Team Modena head for the final round of the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT Championship, with the aim of rounding off their debut season in style with a strong performance in the two one-hour races at Rockingham, Northants this coming weekend. Having only joined mid- series with their brand-new Lamborghini Gallardo, the squad have set three lap records with their crowd-pleasing Italian race car and setting the pace in the Rockingham races would end the season on a high.
"We are looking for a strong end to the season," says Team Principle Graham Schultz. "The car is good, we have a new engine installed and we are ready to race."
This weekend Adam Jones again be leading the driver line up, having already set two lap records with the car at Snetterton and Silverstone, and he will be joined in the GT3-specification Gallardo by Jason Templeman, making his debut with the team.
"I'm really looking forward to Rockingham," says Jones. "The Gallardo has gone well at every circuit we have been to and I don't expect it to be any different this weekend. I've got to know the car over recent races and I am sure there is still more to come from it, we have a new engine in for the weekend and we can bed things down on Friday.
"The Gallardo is a really nimble racecar, which should be good round Rockingham and there are some much larger cars on the grid, and our overall package is a really strong one and it should be good for us."
Templeman has three times finished the season in the top-three of a national sportscar series, and will aiming to use that experience to this weekend to help Team Modena to finish their season in style.
Qualifying at Rockingham is at 12.55 on Saturday, with the two one-hour races at 16.50 Saturday and 13.05 on Sunday.
The 2007 British GT series is held over eight meetings at the UK's leading circuits. The highly competitive series sees the Team Modena Lamborghini up against cars from famous marques such as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche in the competition for GT3 class honours.
Another superb performance from SGLC Team Modena's Gene Lee in Korea
Team Modena Gene Lee racing the SGLC Team Modena BMW won again earlier this month in Korea keeping the team firmly in the hunt for the Super CJ Race Series based at Yongin Everland Speedway.
Team Modena have undertaken consultancy work in the region and see Gene's participation in the SGLC Team Modena BMW 320i WTCC car as a visible showcase for our engineering expertise as well as our committment to the region.
Here is a report from Rounds 9 and 10 held on the 5 September 16th at Everland Speedway from Gene.
"The Lexus GT1 driver Jin Woo Hwang was banned from participating in this weekend's races due to various penalties accumulated over the year, including the one from our accident in race 2. The promoters felt the need to penalize Mr. Hwang for unsportsmanslike driving.
Due to this development, the second driver in the championship took over the #1 Lexus GT1 car for this weekend's races.
We qualified in 2nd place, only 0.3seconds adrift of the Lexus GT1 car. For this race, we had a total of 70kgs weight ballast which was the highest of all cars on the grid. The GT1 car had only 55kgs of weight ballast.
We had a mechanical failure. The lower control arm bolt broke causing the wheel to hang loose on lap two.
Mechanics did a great job to get the car repaired and ready for the afternoon race. We started from 6th on the grid due to our retirement in race 1. It started to rain heavily and everyone went out on wet tires. Immediately, we were quicker than all our competitors including the Lexus GT1 car due to the Michelin tires.
After lap 2 we were hot on the heels of the Lexus GT1 car. On lap 5, we pitted for our mandatory tyre pitstop which took a total of 24.5 seconds to change all four tyres.
The Lexus GT1 car pitted one lap later and their pitstop took longer at 34.5 seconds. We pulled into the lead and maintained it until the end of the race pulling out a total lead of over 14 seconds.
Second race win for Team Modena - SGLC and still in the fight for the Championship!"
The next Super CJ rounds of the championship are to be held on October 14th.
