Ryan Hooker: Optimistic for Oulton Park

Ryan Hooker (Essex) has returned from a soggy Spa, after competing in the VW Fun Cup 25Hr, and looks set to be followed by the bad weather to an overcast Oulton Park for the fifth round of the British GT Championship. But after an encouraging result at his last British GT outing and a productive test since, a little rain will not dampen Ryan and Team Jensen's spirits.

Despite the 25Hour race at Spa, Belgium being largely a wet race, Ryan thoroughly enjoyed the unique event which saw 130 VW Beetle replicas race the famous circuit for over a day. Driving with Team Bulldog in the No.111 car, Ryan got his best experience of endurance racing to date. The race will be covered on Sky Sports in the coming weeks.

"The car was amazing" says Ryan, "I was shocked at how well it handled, I was won over! It was the first time I'd driven a central driving position which was a strange sensation at first, especially as you could just wipe the inside of the windscreen with your hand! Driving Spa is always an exhilarating experience but my first experience of driving Spa in the dead of night was fantastic. Out of 130 cars we qualified 72 and finished 48th overall and were the 6th Brits home. With so many cars out there it was frantic all the time - I just loved every minute of it and it will be an event I want on my calendar each year now."

After his 'Herbie' experience, Ryan now prepares for the British GTs at Oulton Park, Cheshire on 17/18th July in the Team Jensen Corvette. Having scored the team's first point at the last meeting and having taken part in a test day at the Cheshire circuit just a few weeks ago Ryan is confident their form is set to improve further still.

"A great deal of work has been put into the Corvette" Ryan says, "and this was very evident at our recent test day where the progress was in leaps and bounds. My best time at the Oulton test would have seen us at the front of our class in qualifying in 2003 which was encouraging and there is more time in the car yet."
