Northamptonshire sportscar ace, Jamie Derbyshire, and driving partner Shaun Balfe, made an emphatic return to race winning form in front of a staggering 44,000 fans in round eight of the British GT Championship at Rockingham Motor Speedway this afternoon. (August 3).

The Spirit Volkswagen backed racer started the race from pole position and immediately began pulling out a gap over his closest title rival, Shane Lynch, in a TVR. A superbly consistent opening stint saw Jamie claim 10 seconds over his rival before the halfway stage, when he handed over to Balfe.

"The car was good and really well balanced which made it pretty easy." Said Jamie. "It was very hot in the car though and I was glad to hand over to Shaun by mid-distance.

Derbyshire had come to Rockingham with the intention of stepping back into the winners circle and the whole team worked hard to regain the sort of form that won the opening four races this season, finishing the race with a lead of over 20 seconds at the chequered flag.

"Shaun drove a great race and it feels great to be back at the top of the podium and it was exactly the result we needed in our bid for the championship." He said.

"We came here with the intention of beating the rest of the GT field and we have achieved everything we set out to do. It is one down and three to go and we need to keep winning so we will be aiming to keep the momentum going to the next round." He added.

Jamie's next outing will be at Thruxton in Hampshire in two weeks time. (August 16/17).
