Shaun Balfe will partner Eclipse Motorsport driver Piers Johnson in the opening round of the British GT Championship at Donington Park this weekend.

The pair will be sharing the Rollcentre Mosler for the first round of the championship after the Eclipse car was damaged during its shakedown at the Leicestershire venue last week.

Mosler importer Martin Short has loaned his car to the team for the event, which will be fitted with Eclipse's engine and gearbox from their car for the meeting. The team is hoping to have its car back in action for the second round of the series at Magny-Cours at the end of April.

"Martin has been incredibly helpful in lending us the car for Donington and Shaun knows the car well," said Eclipse's John Griffiths. "It's a two-hour race and with both Piers and Shaun in the car we can hopefully pull a few surprises.

The car will not be new to Balfe as it is the chassis that he raced alongside Martin Short at the Bahrain GT Festival at the end of 2004.

"I'm pleased to be helping another team with the Mosler and it's a car that I've driven before so we can get straight down to concentrating on the racing and getting the team up to speed," said Balfe. "It's nice that people have looked at me and the rest of the Balfe Motorsport Team as being a benchmark for running a Mosler. I hope that I can help out the Eclipse lads as much as possible and it will be good practice for the FIA season,' he added.
