ET.CHINA AGT Masters Sunday race: Lamborghini V.S Ferrari
ET.CHINA AGT Masters Zhuhai race round 2 started at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, when sixteen super GT cars enjoyed the attention of more than ten thousand spectators. In addition, today's temperature was exceptionally high in Zhuhai.
The starting grid was based on Saturday's qualifying 2, with Poon starting from pole position with Oliver Lee next to him. Eddie YAU in his Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 and Samson Fung started from the 2nd row. The major focus was on Paul Poon and Eddie YAU as they put up an excellent fight for Zhuhai Pan Delta race fans. When the red lights went out, Eddie YAU's blue & white Gallardo found a good line and overtook Poon and Lee to lead the race into T1. Car No.32 Andrew Luk, spun and ran off the track due to the crowded start. Yau's car No. 72, a Lamborghini, led the race to lap 2 with Poon following closely in his F430 GT3 with Samson Fung 3rd and Kenneth Ma 4th. The camera was following Eddie YAU and Paul Poon for the rest of the race. Starting from lap 4, Poon moved closer to Eddie YAU (0.8 seconds difference) and the time difference was shortened to only 0.2 seconds after lap 5 when Poon set the best lap of the race at 1:42.035. In lap 7, Poon overtook YAU in a right-handed turn, yet YAU took back the lead when passing in the next turn and they passed the timing line with only 0.3 seconds' gap. In Lap 9, Poon and YAU continued the good fight: Poon again grabbed a passing opportunity and overtook YAU but after only 10 seconds, YAU sped up and retook his position when passing in another corner. The 2 cars entered lap 10 with only 0.1 seconds' difference and with only one lap left, it was indeed a tough task for Poon to move to the lead. In the end, Eddie YAU won the race with Poon 2nd and Samson Fung 3rd. In class A, Francis TJIA did an outstanding job winning the class. Wayne Shen captured 2nd while Byron Tong settled for 3rd.
The exciting GT fight has given Zhuhai race fans a good reason to return to Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) to enjoy next season's AGT performance. See you in 2010!
