Led by Max Angelelli, Wayne Taylor Racing took the speed honors at the Daytona International Speedway as the two-day Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series test session concluded. Powered by a strong Corvette engine, Angelelli clicked off a lap speed of 126.743 miles per hour as the final minutes of the day wound down.

For the upcoming 51st edition of the Rolex24 at Daytona, Angelelli will be joined by Jordan Taylor and others for the grueling round-the-clock event.

“This was good for the guys,” Angelelli said after practice. “Now we have to maintain this pace, this status. We don’t want other people going faster.”

Alex Gurney put the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Corvette into second place with a speed of 125.693 mph.

At 125.537 mph, Christian Fittipaldi was the third fastest in the Action Express Racing Corvette. Fittipaldi and co-drivers Joao Barbosa along with the Frisselle brothers topped the speed charts in four of the six test sessions.

In GT action, Andrew Davis had the fastest speed of 116.569 mph in the Brumos Racing Porsche with LeMans superstar Frank Biela second fastest at 116.532 mph. Biela drove the Audi America Audi R8.

Morning-long rains washed out the early portion of the day. Once the rain subsided, the DP teams waited for the track to dry while the GT competitors helped dry the track.

Before the torrential downpour doused the track, Fittipaldi registered the fastest speed of 119.284 mph. Ben Keating led the way in GT action with a lap speed of 112.568 mph. The latter was driving a TRG Porsche GT3 car.

The Rolex Series competitors will return to Daytona for the final tune-up on January 4-6. This session is dubbed the “Roar before the Rolex24.”
