Max “The Ax” Angelelli, the veteran Italian teammate to 22-year-old first-year co-driver Jordan Taylor, clocked a fast lap of 1 minute, 10.184 seconds at 121.566 mph around the 2.37-mile, six-turn Kansas Speedway infield layout situated between turns one and two of its 1.5-mile tri-oval. It was good for fifth-best among the 28 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag for Saturday night’s two-hour, 45-minute race.

“It wasn’t the best qualifying session we’ve had all year, but we’re here to win the race and I think we will have a good race car for Saturday night,” said Angelelli, who qualified the Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP for the first time since the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona. “I’m not incredibly happy with where we ended up, but, again, the most important thing is that we have a good race car for Saturday night. This is going to be an exciting race, that’s for sure.”

Memo Rojas scored his first pole of the season and the ninth of his career in the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley he co-drives with fellow three-time-defending series champion Scott Pruett.

The top-five qualifiers for Saturday’s VisitFlorida.com Sports Car 250 are:

1. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 BMW Riley) with Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett (1:09.883 at 122.090 mph).

2. Michael Shank Racing (No. 6 Ford Riley) with Gustavo Yacaman and Justin Wilson (1:09.950 at 121.973 mph).

3. Action Express Racing (No. 5 Corvette DP) with Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa (1:09.950 at 121.790 mph).

5. Wayne Taylor Racing (No. 10 Corvette DP) with Max Angelelli and Jordan Taylor (1:10.184 at 121.566 mph).

Race time is 8 p.m. EDT Saturday with live television provided by the all-new FOX Sports 2 network. Live radio on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 begins at 7:45 p.m.
