RUM BUM RACING LED THE SIX HOURS AT THE GLEN AND FINISHED 12TH
Hawthorne, California, June 11 - Gene Sigal and Matt Plumb, co-drivers of the No. 7 Rum Bum Racing/Big Vision Miami/Caramba Tequila Dinan BMW Riley finished 12th at the Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International last Saturday. Matt Plumb led the race after two hours and demonstrated that the Rum Bum Racing team was very competitive. The race marked the first full race that the team competed in with the new bodywork.
On Monday following the race, Rum Bum Racing participated in the Grand-Am Rolex Series open test with most of the championship contenders on the Glen short course to prepare for the August 8 race. Matt Plumb posted the fastest practice time of the day confirming that the car is getting better and better.
Last weekend's race was the sixth race of the Grand-Am 2008 Rolex Sports Car Series.
The team came to the third longest race of the season with high expectations, even though the Rum Bum Racing Dinan BMW Riley machine had to be rebuilt after the fire at the Laguna Seca race that devastated 60%of the car. The team had a strategy to qualify with Matt Plumb at the wheel to make sure the team got a spot among the top starters on the grid. Unfortunately a competitor crashed into the tire barrier earlier in the session and the officials had to end the session because the barriers could not be repaired on time. Matt had only two laps to find a clear lap. That was not possible and he qualified 12th.
Matt started the first two hour stint which was good and he ran in the top ten most of the stint and even led 5 laps. Gene drove a good stint in the middle of the race then let Matt finish the last two hour stint. The Rum Bum Racing team finished 12th in this very competitive race.
On Monday, Rum Bum Racing participated in the open day test session organized by Grand-Am to prepare for the upcoming August race at the Glen on the short course. This marked the first time the team was really able to work on the setup side since the Rum Bum Racing started using the new bodywork and the new Dinan BMW V8 engine. Engineer Brian Ma worked studiously with Matt and Gene to find a good balance for the car and after a day at the track the team ended the day with the fastest time of all teams present at this open test including most of the championship contenders! This is exciting news considering that we are reaching the mid-season in 10 days at Mid-Ohio and Rum Bum Racing is eager to regain a top ten position in the championship and get back into a winning mode after the two major hits at Mexico and Laguna Seca that really slowed the team down in its progression.
The Rum Bum Racing team has moved into its summer base in Indianapolis to prepare for the Mid-Ohio race scheduled to be run on Saturday, June 21.
