RUM BUM RACING REBOUNDS FROM LAST RACE FIRE!
Hawthorne, California, Junes - Two weeks ago, the Rum Bum Racing team had a huge misfortune during the Rumbum.com 250 at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway. The team's car was almost destroyed by a fire that started during the race. The Rum Bum Racing team has worked 24/7 to get a car back on four wheels and thanks to fantastic team effort, will be ready to compete in the upcoming Watkins Glen event next Saturday, June 7 at Watkins Glen International.
The Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen is one of the three longest Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series races of the 2008 season. The #7 Rum Bum Racing / Big Vision Miami / Caramba Tequila Dinan BMW Riley will be co-driven by Gene Sigal and Matt Plumb and both drivers are excited about their comeback to the track and have great expectations for this New York state rendez-vous.
The team has been fast but unlucky since the beginning of the season. Gene Sigal and co-driver Matt Plumb finished fifth at both Homestead-Miami Speedway and Virginia International Raceway however Matt was involved in an incident at Mexico City and at Laguna Seca. Hopefully the dark period is behind the Rum Bum Racing team and the next race will bring great results to the team and its sponsors.
"We are going to the Glen with almost a brand new car that was rebuilt after the Laguna Seca fire and we look forward to running at the front of the pack" announced Gene Sigal, team owner and co-driver of the #7 Rum Bum Racing Dinan BMW Riley. "We just had two big accidents in three races and we proved again that our Rum Bum Racing team is strong and made up of very highly qualified and dedicated professionals. I am amazed at the efforts of the crew; they worked so hard to rebuild the car again. I really want to thank our crew chief Evan and the mechanics James, Joey and Sean and everybody else who contributed to the task and gave us a chance, like Riley and Dinan, to return to competition for this next race. Steve Dinan and his staff helped us tremendously. They let us have a new engine on time and also sent their engineer to make sure the engine was fitted well in the car. I always thought that the car would be back on four wheels but without these guys it would not have been possible. I am hoping that with this six-hour event, Matt and I will have plenty of time to drive and we hope we can return to a competitive mode and score another good result for our sponsor Rum Bum, like we did in Miami and VIR" added Sigal.
