Spirit of Daytona Takes Strong Seventh in Glen Qualifying
Camirand puts in a flyer before session cut short
Watkins Glen, NY (6 June 2008) --The Spirit of Daytona Racing Porsche V8-powered Coyote secured a strong seventh on the grid for Saturday's Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen on Friday as Marc-Antoine Camirand set a fast lap time of 1:45.672-seconds on the 3.4-mile long course in Friday's qualifying session.
Camirand will start the six hour event before turning the driving duties over to co-drivers Terry Borcheller and Guy Cosmo. The qualifying performance marked the second consecutive top-ten grid position for the Porsche-Coyote combination, which is making just its third Rolex Sports Car Series race appearance so far in the 2008 season.
"The car was pretty good and it is great that we can come back after being away for a few races and be right in there with these other cars, who have been making improvements every race," said Camirand. "Two laps wasn't enough to show what we can do though. The car was faster than we showed in qualifying, so hopefully we can just keep making progress tomorrow."
Every qualifying session inherently packs some excitement, but for Camirand, things almost got too exciting during the Friday afternoon running.
"It happened right in front of me!" said Camirand about the accident that ended the session early after the tire wall was damaged. "I saw it coming-he just lost it but I was able to stay out of the mess but it was a close call for a second!"
The Lozano Brothers-prepared, Porsche-based 5.0-liter V-8 Coyote will make its third Rolex Sports Car Series race start of the season at 11:15 AM ET, with SPEED covering the race start and opening segment live.
