Negri ready for long day at the Glen
(Watkins Glen, NY) 8 June 2007-- Taking second place in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona, a close fourth in the Watkins 6-hour, and then winning the season-ending 9 hour event at Miller Motorsports Park set Oswaldo Negri and co-driver Mark Patterson head and shoulders above the other driver pairings when it came time for the endurance races in the Rolex Sports Car Series last year, and the two are looking to show that once again this weekend.
Saturday's Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen will see Negri and Patterson look to once again take to the podium at the Glen, something that Negri has done with a variety of other driving partners at the upstate New York track.
"I really love this track," said Negri. "The corners require the driver to be really committed, and you are working all the way through them."
The long-distance event has a long history and traditionally brings some variable weather into the mix.
"You just have to get the car to be comfortable here," said Negri. "Having a car that's fast for just one lap but not good to race over a full stint is just no good. You have to be able to set a good pace and stick with it to get a good result in these races, so that's what we are focused on."
Negri brings some positive momentum to the track, having taken his first podium of the season with third place at Laguna Seca last month.
"It's always a good way to come into the weekend with a good last race under your belt, but of course now that doesn't matter anymore and we have to focus on doing well here once again," said Negri. "There are a lot of things that effect your performance in these long races, and Mike Shank's team always seems to do well in them. They pay a lot of attention to the small details and that shows in the results."
