Watkins Glen, NY (August 16, 2000) - Watkins Glen International announced today that the Grand Marshal for the upcoming Bosch Sport Car Summerfest weekend will be one of The Glen's lucky fans. Anyone purchasing tickets for the Summerfest weekend, August 25-27, will be automatically registered to win. The winner will be drawn on Wednesday, August 23, and will be announced at a press conference during lunch on Friday, August 25, in the Watkins Glen Media Center. As Grand Marshal for the weekend, the winner will then draw the line-up for the two 18-lap sprint qualifying races scheduled for Friday afternoon and evening. The Grand Marshal will then give the most famous command in motorsports on Sunday when she or he says "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!" "This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a lucky fan to not only give the famous command to start engines on Sunday, but actually help draw the qualifying race line-up," said Roger Curtis, General Manager of Marketing & Sales for WGI. "Participating in an event as historic and traditional as the Six Hours of The Glen will put them in the record books at Watkins Glen forever." The Bosch Sports Car Summerfest weekend at Watkins Glen features the Six Hours of The Glen. The historic six-hour endurance race, scheduled to start Sunday at 11 a.m., will decide the inaugural championship for the new Grand American Road Racing Association. James Weaver enters the weekend leading the premier SportsRacer class championship with 264 points driving a Ford Riley & Scott owned by Rob Dyson.
