TRG Qualifies Three at The Glen

Watkins, Glen, N.Y., (August 6, 2009) - TRG's Justin Marks headed the team's qualifying effort with a fifth row starting position for tomorrow's running of the Grand-Am Rolex Series Crown Royal 200 at The Glen. Teammate John Potter will start from the fifth row with Josemanuel Gutierrez going away from the grid from row six.

The Grand-Am teams are running on a limited practice schedule as they are sharing their second race of the season at The Glen with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The series also shares The Glen's short course layout which runs 2.45-mile with eight-turns.

Justin Marks posted a time of 1:13.508 which will have him start from the fifth row in 10th. Marks is teamed with six time Watkins Glen winner Andy Lally in the No. 66 Construct Corps/CRG/No Fear Energy Drinks/Voodoo Ride/K1 Speed/Gemstone Winery/TRG Porsche GT3. Aside from their Grand-Am driving duties, Marks is in the No.10 Braun Racing NASCAR Nationwide entry and Lally in the No. 71 TRG Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup car this weekend.

"We unloaded the car and had a tough start to the weekend," Marks said. "The guys really worked hard all day to get the car handling. We were a lot better the second practice and even better in qualifying. We still have a little work to do for the race. I am really proud of the effort the guys put in today. With the short course you try and pull as much downforce out of the car as possible. There is really only one slow corner, the rest you are flying. We are trying to find a balance aero wise to maximize the car. On the long course you are trying for more mechanical grip. For the race we are putting more downforce into it. We are searching for that perfect balance."

John Potter qualified the No. 65 Magnus Racing/TRG Porsche GT3 with a time of 1:14.514 and will start from the fifth row in 11th. Potter shares the seat with 2005 Grand-Am GT champion Craig Stanton.

"It went well in qualifying," Potter said. "The short course is a lot of fun. As a purest I have a soft spot for the long course. We are running the car with as little downforce as possible to roll more through the high speed turns. We will probably add a little downforce for the race, but in qualifying we wanted to trim the car out as much as possible."

Josemanuel Gutierrez posted a time of 1:15.341 after limited practice in the No. 68 Cohen Financial/TRG Porsche. Gutierrez shares the 68 with Scott Schroeder and will go away from the grid from the sixth row in 13th.

"The guys did a good job to get the car ready for qualifying," Gutierrez said. "We have a few more things to work on, but we will be ready for the race. I really like the balance of the car. We have some more speed in the Porsche that will come out in the race."

TRG team owner Kevin Buckler has a full plate for the Watkins Glen weekend with three Rolex GT cars and two NASCAR Sprint Cup cars at The Glen.

"It is tough to come here with limited practice time and get the cars perfect," Buckler said. "Justin did a great job with Andy working with the crew all day to get the 67 handling. John and Craig keep getting better and better every weekend as a duo. Josemanuel and Scott continue to impress me with their speed and feedback on the car. We are starting a big day tomorrow when our two NASCAR Sprint Cup cars hit the track to qualify and then the Rolex GT race at the end of the day."

The Crown Royal 200 at The Glen will be televised, tape delayed, on the SPEED Channel starting at 8:00 p.m. ET on Friday, August 7.
