Labonte Brothers Finish 14th In CompUSA 200 Rolex Race At Watkins Glen International Friday Night
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y., Aug. 12 - NASCAR NEXTEL Cup stars Bobby and Terry Labonte finished 14th in the CompUSA 200 Rolex series race Friday night at Watkins Glen International in the Doran Labonte Racing Daytona USA DORAN JE4 Pontiac No. 44.
Terry Labonte started 13th and had a fabulous start, vaulting to tenth place by the end of lap one as the field traveled over the Glen's 2.45-mile, 11-turn road course. He lost a few spots thereafter, and by lap seven he found himself back in 20th spot because the car started to get really loose. He worked with it as best he could, and by lap 13 he was in 17th and starting to make his way back up through the field.
He pitted under a full-course yellow on lap 20 to turn the car over to his younger brother. A lot of Daytona Prototypes pitted under that yellow, and when the field straightened out Bobby Labonte was in 14th place.
He was 13th by lap 25 of what turned out to be a 75-lap race, as the event was checkered at the two-hour mark. He ran in various spots in the teens until the end, when he took the checkered in 14th.
The race was covered on a same-day, tape-delayed basis on SPEED. A thunderstorm occurred about 3 hours before the start, but no rain fell during the event.
Both Labonte brothers are also entered in Sunday's Sirius Satellite Radio at the Glen NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race. Terry is entered in J.D. Gibbs' FedEx Kinko's Chevrolet No. 11 and Bobby will drive Joe Gibbs' Interstate Batteries Chevy No. 18.

Driver quotes follow:
Terry Labonte: "I had a good start, but then the car got loose. When the fuel started to burn off it just got looser. I don't know the car well enough to know how to make any adjustments to help it. In the practice sessions I guess we had more fuel in it, because it wasn't like that earlier. But the car was good; we had fun.
"The track was OK; the rain didn't really affect anything. And when there was an accident they cleaned it up good."
Bobby Labonte: "I had a good time today. I didn't spin out or anything like that. I think I ran my fastest laps at the end. Track position was important and we didn't really have good track position at the end. I think with each race, I got better and better. It's just a fun series to be a part of. I met some great people and I'm really looking forward to doing more Rolex races in the future. I want to thank Kevin Doran and his whole team for everything they did this year. It's a great group of people and I had a blast."
