Law and Donohue Finish Sixth in New Brumos Riley Porsche at Rolex Series Watkins Glen Event

August 12, 2006 -- Darren Law and David Donohue capitalized on the new found speed of their Brumos Riley Porsche Daytona Prototype to finish a competitive sixth in this past weekend's Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Crown Royal 200 at The Glen. The Crown Royal 200 at The Glen marked the thirteenth round of the fifteen round 2006 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve schedule, and was held in conjunction with the NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup series events.

Qualifying

The Watkins Glen race also marked the second event for the Brumos team with their new Riley chassis, and the #58 Red Bull liveried entry of Law and Donohue was in more and more competitive form as the two day event carried on. Law was tapped for qualifying at this event, and duly placed the car 13th on the grid with a lap of time 1:08.745 at an average speed of 128.300 mph around the 2.45-mile Watkins Glen (short course) layout.

Race

Law took the start of the 200-mile event and kept out of the trouble that caught out two of the 26 car Daytona Prototype only field in the opening laps. Darren progressively moved forward through the field taking the #58 from the 13th starting position up to 5th before pitting near the half way point of the race. Law then turned the car over to Donohue during a full course caution period stop for fuel and tires. Donohue continued to keep the Brumos near the sharp end of the field during his stint, and took the checkered flag in 6th place.JJDespite having only two races completed on the newly purchased Riley chassis, both Law and Donohue are encouraged by the drivability and tuneability of the car. Law is confident that as the team gains experience with the new car, they will be able to unlock yet more speed and competitiveness.

Darren Law Quote

"It was a very good finish for us today. We had a good pit stop and had a clean race. David and I both fought for our positions and are happy that we are progressing, but would both like to be running up front. We struggled a bit in practice with the new car, as we were having issues with the power steering locking up, but we got that resolved for the most part just before the race. We are still working to figure out how to get the setup dialed in, and it is getting closer while everyone on the team is learning. This is all really a learning program to get ready for the 24-hour (Daytona) and the '07 season."JJUpcoming Events and Info

Darren's next events with the Brumos squad include the last two races of the 2006 Rolex Grand American Sports Car Series schedule with the Infineon Raceway event being held the weekend of August 24-26, and then the season finale Miller Motorsports Park in Utah event which will be held the weekend of August 31st through September 2nd.
