DIAZ QUALIFIES COMPUSA CAR FOURTH FOR CROWN ROYAL 200 AT THE GLEN

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 10, 2006) -- CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates pilot Luis Diaz turned in a top time of 1:08.012 (129.683mph) over his 12 timed qualifying laps at Watkins Glen this afternoon to place the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley fourth on the grid for Round 12 of the Rolex Sports Car Series.

Diaz rolled off for Daytona Prototype qualifying in the first of two groups thanks to a new qualifying procedure Grand American implemented to give drivers more room during their runs. At the conclusion of the 15-mintue session, Diaz found himself second out of 13 cars. His lap time survived the second group for the most part, dropping only two spots to qualify fourth in the 26-car DP field.

CGRFS Driver Quoteboard

LUIS DIAZ "I think Grand American made a good call today with the qualifying format. I think we did this in Long Beach earlier in the year to give everyone more room, and to increase the chances of getting a good, clean lap. The first race we had this year was on the 3.4-mile long course, so it suits the format to have a split session in qualifying when you're running the short (2.3-mile) course. We're happy with the car right now, but will have another session tonight to make adjustments before tomorrow."
