DIAZ DRIVES GANASSI-PREPARED DP TO FOURTH-PLACE GRIDDING FOR COMPUSA 200
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 11, 2005) -- When you have Grand American, NASCAR Busch and NEXTEL Cup Series races blanketing your schedule in a three-day span at Watkins Glen, the average race car driver might quiver at the mere thought of the state of exhaustion awaiting him come Sunday night after a "triple". But CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates' Scott Pruett will be up to the task this weekend as he looks to complete the trifecta of races at the 2.45-mile course nestled in New York's Finger Lake region. He proved that point today by patiently watching co-driver Luis Diaz who qualified the team's no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley comfortably in the second row, enjoying the calm before the Watkins Glen weekend storm.
In Diaz' last trip to "Thunder Road", he was able to complement Pruett's drive for the team which resulted in their fourth podium finish (third) of the season. Once again, Diaz and company are in striking distance of SunTrust Racing who holds a 14-marker advantage over the 2004 Daytona Prototype champs.
"We're just working pretty hard to fix some details regarding the read-end being loose," said Diaz. "We're losing time in the corners, and I had some traffic, but we have some good ideas and a strategy for getting the car up to speed tomorrow. My first stint tomorrow in the race should be in the daylight, so I'll leave the tough stuff up to Scott-- he should have enough laps around this place by then to get around it in the dark."
Fans of CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates can catch the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley in action at the CompUSA 200 in Watkins Glen, N.Y., tomorrow night at 10:00 pm ET (Tape Delay, SPEED Channel).
