Dalziel set for Virginia International Raceway debut

Alton, Virginia (October 07, 2005) -- Scotland's Ryan Dalziel will make his first career start at the Virginia International Raceway this Sunday, 9th October, as he tackles the 'VIR 400', Round 13 of the 2005 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series, in the #71 SAMAX Racing Porsche GT3 Cup car.

The 23-year-old racer will once again share driving duties for the 2-hour 45-minute race with Boston's Mark Greenberg. The duo's last outing together, September's 'Crown Royal 250' at Watkins Glen, ended in disappointment as gearbox woes forced the Scot to retire the car having steered it into the top-ten of the GT-class within five laps of taking over behind the wheel.

Ryan's hoping for a reversal of fortune in Sunday's 'VIR 400' and he's looking forward to making his debut on the 3.27-mile Virginia International Raceway.

"This is an awesome track," he commented yesterday after a day of testing at the Alton, Virginia circuit. "I'm excited to get the opportunity to race in Virginia and I have to say I'm really impressed not only with the layout but also with the venue itself. I got up to speed pretty quickly on the track, setting the second quickest time behind the BMW."

Ryan continued, "I'm hoping for a longer run in the car this weekend as last month's race at Watkins was a brief one for me. I was naturally disappointed to retire so early in the day as Mark had raced well and when I took over I pushed us on into the top ten in just a handful of laps and from there we could have climbed even further up the order. We've had some bad luck this season but hopefully Sunday's run will allow us to clock up some serious race mileage!"

Today's schedule consists of two practice sessions with qualifying hosted tomorrow, Saturday 8th October, at 12:45pm EST. The 'VIR 400' kicks off on Sunday at 1pm EST with SPEED Channel broadcasting the 250-mile race live throughout North America.
