Front row start for Brian Frisselle at VIR Matches career-best qualifying result
(Danville, VA) 26 April 08- Brian Frisselle matched his career-best Rolex Sports Car Series qualifying effort on Saturday with a 1:43.505-second flying lap around Virginia International Raceway to score second on the grid for Sunday's Bosch Engineering 250.
"I'm so excited. Starting up front like this means that I'll be able to really pick my braking point at the start, and that could be a big advantage," said Frisselle. "I think we're running a lot less downforce than the guys next to us, so I hope we have something for them tomorrow."
Frisselle, who will share the driving duties in the Ford-Riley AIM Autosport Exchange Traded Gold machine with Mark Wilkins, is hoping to turn a fast but disappointing Mexico City race outing into a strong VIR result.
"We had a quick car in Mexico but the results really don't show that. But it's great to show up and have another quick car. AIM is doing a great job and we just keep getting better and better. Now we just have to avoid any problems in the race and turn this into a good result and some good championship points tomorrow."
The Bosch event is the second race event for the No. 47 BSI/CDOC Ford-powered Dallara of Burt Frisselle and Gabriel Gardel. The duo had a break-out race weekend in Mexico City, but haven't yet found the magic mix with the set up yet at VIR. Gardel made his first Rolex qualifying appearance on Saturday, delivering a top-ten grid spot with a quick lap time of 1:45.897-seconds.
"The car is excellent in the high-speed sections, but we have just struggled a little bit with the low-speed corners," said Burt Frisselle. "That was something we really didn't encounter much in Mexico City, but it certainly is something we will see at other tracks so we'll just keep trying some new things with the car. I am still amazed how well this Dallara has performed for us right out of the box and how all the effort the Doran guys have put in has translated into such a strong car. We're not exactly where we want to be yet, but its really encouraging to at least be in the top ten and know that we can go even better tomorrow."
