TRG Collects Hardware at Rolex Series Banquet
George Jr. Gets Two, TRG/Riegle Autosport Gets $10k
Petaluma, Calif., The Grand-Am Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 celebrated the end of the 2008 season with their annual banquet held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. TRG crossed the stage three times to be honored by the crowd numbering over 600.
Tim George Jr. was the recipient of two major awards. The first was the MESCO Building Solutions Rookie of the Year Award. This award covered both the GT and the Daytona Prototype (DP) series competitors. George Jr. bested such talent as former F1 driver and Peugeot driver Ricardo Zonta for the award. The prize is based on finishing performance throughout the 14 race series schedule for drivers racing in Grand-Am GT or DP competition for the first time.
The second award for TRG's George Jr. was the Bob Akin Award for the top Sportsman Driver in the GT class. Again the award is performance based and George Jr. took home his second honor of the evening.
"I had a lot of help this season," George Jr. said. "The TRG team prepared an excellent car that really never missed a beat. They were able to get the car back on the track at Daytona which was key in my points chase for both of these awards. Spencer Pumpelly and Andy Lally also have a hand in these awards. Their professionalism and tutoring throughout the season was invaluable. The entire TRG organization from Kevin and Debra Buckler right through to the crew guys who work so hard has contributed to me being up here tonight."
The third honor for TRG was the SunTrust Improve Your Position Award for the No. 65 TRG/Riegle Autosport Porsche GT3. The $10,000 check was accepted by team owner Kevin Buckler for the team's ability to improve their finishing position based upon their qualifying effort.
"What a night!" Buckler exclaimed. "It was a nice way to end the season. We had Tim up on stage two times accepting the Akin and Rookie awards. We also had first timers Hima Maher, John Potter, Josemanuel Gutierrez and Craig Stanton contributing to the SunTrust Improve Your Position Award. When you can offer new drivers to the series opportunities to perform at their best that is a large part of what Grand-Am offers."
