TAFEL QUALIFIES ON POLE IN SEASON FINALE

As the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve draws to a close in the Discount Tire Sunchaser at Miller Mosotrport Park in Tooele, Utah, the GT field will once again be led by the 72 NEC Tafel Racing Porsche GT3 Cup. Wolf Henzler of Germany qualified on the pole with a lap time of 2:55.190 on the 4.5 mile road course. The will be the fifth time this season the 72 has led the GT field in qualifying. The 72 was quickest in class in every session this weekend, with a best lap time of 2:53.753 in practice 4. With the 72 second in points, a victory in this race could bring Tafel Racing the team championship and Liddell and Henzler the driver championship.

Henzler and Robin Liddell of England have co-driven the car all season, but for this nine-hour race they will also be joined by Tafel Racing teammate Andrew Davis of Bogart, Ga. Henzler has already had one podium finish at the new circuit, finishing 3rd in the GT2 class in the ALMS series in July.

Ian James of Paradise Valley, AZ. qualified the 74 Rembrandt Charms Porsche GT3 Cup in 5th position with a 2:56.767 lap. Behind the wheel of the 74 this weekend will be James, Eric Lux of Amherst, NY, and team owner Jim Tafel of Alpharetta, Ga. Lux, Henzler, and Liddell teamed up in the 175 Rembrandt Charms Porsche in the Grand Am Cup race on Friday, finishing 2nd, their best finish of the season. The 74 is 6th in team points going into the race and are looking to boost that to 5th with a good finish on Saturday.

The Tafel Porsches have been very reliable this season, allowing the 72 to take the checkered flag four times and the 74 to finish three times in the top five. This promises to be a very exciting race with nine hours of action and so much at stake. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel at 2:00 P.M. ET and then in a second segment at 8:30 P.M. ET.
