The Matt Connolly Motorsports team is still excited after back-to-back podium finishes in the Montreal and New Jersey rounds of the 2008 Grand Am Rolex GT season. The team is riding an excellent streak down the stretch with five Top-5's and three Podium finishes in the last eight rounds of the series. Of the recent success, Team Owner Matt Connolly states: "I couldn't be happier right now going into the last race of the season. My team has done one heck of a job in prepping the car and not costing our drivers any positions in pit stops. In fact I am usually feeling confident that this crew will gain positions in pit lane, unless we happen to pit in the lead as has been the case a number of times this year."
The team will feature a three driver lineup this coming weekend for the SunRichGourmet.com 1000. Joining team regular Diego Alessi, who is coming off a win this past weekend at Brno, will be Karl Reindler of Australia and Romeo Kapudija. Reindler drove the #21 MCM Pontiac GTO-R at the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona and has been competing this season in the Australian Super V8 Series with much success, and showed his abilities to the team back in January which prompted the team to invite him back for another go. Rounding out the lineup is Battery Tender sponsored driver Romeo Kapudija who was in the #40 Mazda RX-8 at the Daytona 24 this season.
"I am very grateful to Matt Connelly for giving me this opportunity, he and his team have done such a great job all year proving the Pontiac GTO-R is a front running car and I'm very pleased that he has provided me with such a great opportunity to compete with the MCM team in the season finale. I couldn't be happier to have the chance to drive in such a competitive and well sorted car with the likes of Diego Alessi and Karl Reindler, two competitive and World Class drivers. I would like to thank the Battery Tender company for all their support throughout the years and especially like to express much appreciation to Michael Prelec" states Kapudija.
Closing out his first full season in Grand Am competition, Alessi is very motivated to give the team its first win in the series for some added momentum in the offseason. "Matt and his team have been performing great all season in providing me and my team mates a car to compete against great talent in the Grand Am Rolex Series. I have learned many new circuits this season that I've always wished to compete on. We still have the goal of a win this season, and look to end the season on a high note at Miller Motorsports Park this coming weekend in the Pontiac GTO-R!" The MCM team and drivers are already looking forward to the 2009 racing season with many exciting plans ahead for the small Pennsylvania based team. Stay tuned as the team plans to be at the top of the charts again in '09!
