Guy Cosmo Ready For Run Through The Desert
Joining Memo Gidley and Michael McDowell for the final race of the 2006 Rolex Series schedule, Guy Cosmo is ready for the 9-hour challenge at Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday, September 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah. This will be the Grand American Rolex Series season ending event, the Discount Tire Sunchaser 9-Hour race and will begin at 12:00 p.m.
"There's nothing better than a long endurance race," said Guy Cosmo. "There are so many variables that equalize and effect of the outcome of the race. Team preparation, strategy and, of course, luck all come into play. I really like this type of event."
Cosmo is teamed once again in the No.19 Playboy/Uniden/Palms - sponsored Daytona Prototype. This will be Guy's fifth time participating with the team having stood in for an injured Memo Gidley earlier in the season.
"I've developed an excellent working relationship with the crew and my co-drivers," Cosmo continued. "This is a well-prepped car and a well organized team. I think the 9-hour format will play to our strengths."
Set in the Utah desert, Miller Motorsports Park presents a real challenge for the drivers come tomorrow evening. The facility has no lights and therefore will call on the drivers to literally feel their way around the 24-turn, 4.486-mile track as they race to the checkered flag.
After Friday's qualifying session, Cosmo was upbeat about the 10th place slot on the starting grid.
"We've made a lot of strides from last weekend," said Cosmo. "We've gotten the 19 car back on the pace it's accustomed to running. I think we've got a great combination of drivers behind the wheel. We're just going to keep it clean and fast."
Memo Gidley will start Saturday from row five.
