FINLAY, VALIANTE, AND CAMERON QUALIFY ON ROW 9 FOR TOMORROW'S DISCOUNT TIRE SUNCHASER 9-HOUR EVENT
TOOELE, UTAH (September 1, 2006) Qualifying for tomorrow's running of the Discount Tire Sunchaser 9-Hour event at Miller Motorsports Park took place earlier today. Rob Finlay, once again drove the tires off the No.5 Make-A- Wish/Z-Line Designs Daytona Prototype machine qualifying on Row 9 for tomorrow's season ending Grand American Rolex Series race. The Finlay Motorsport team spent the morning session working on the race set- up with Michael Valiante behind the wheel. Valiante laid down a lap at 1:38.9 showing that the Make-A-Wish/Z-Line Designs machine has what it takes to run up front. "This weekend has been going well from the get go," said Michael Valiante. "The car has been in the top-three in almost every single session and I think it was quick enough to challenge for the pole. The goal this weekend is to give Rob (Finlay) a shot at the Jim Trueman Award so that's what are focus is."
Finlay will have the honor of starting tomorrow's 9-hour race and plans on doing just that run up front. "The car was good," said Rob Finlay. "We cut a tire early in the session or I could have qualified better. It just kept getting more and more difficult to drive but I knew that I had to stay out and give it everything I could. We know the car's capable of a competitive speed given what Michael (Valiante) ran this morning so I'm just looking forward to the race and handing the car off to Michael in a good position."
Michael Valiante and Dane Cameron will join Rob Finlay behind the wheel of the team's Ford Powered Daytona Prototype in quest of one last top-five finish before the off season begins. "I've really enjoyed the car so far," said Dane Cameron. "This is the first time that I've been behind the wheel of a Daytona Prototype car and the first time that I've been around Miller Motorsports Park so I've had a great deal to learn. I'm just glad that I've been given this opportunity and look forward to racing against some of the best drivers in the sport."
