Miami, FL - February 27, 2001 - David Tuaty and his new Porsche Boxster are set to make their professional hometown debut at this weekend's Nextel 250 at Homestead -Miami Speedway. David Tuaty 28, of Miami will race the Boxster in the Grand -Am Cup, a support race for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.
David is looking forward to racing professionally in front of his hometown crowd. "It's been a dream of mine to race at Homestead in a professional series. To be a part of the biggest sport s car race in this track's history and to race the Boxster is a huge thrill for me."
Tuaty will be racing the Boxster in the Sport Touring class, arguably the most competitive in the four class series. Tuaty and co -driver Mark Underwood are expecting exc ellent results from their SpeedSource prepared Porsche Boxster. Their first race at Daytona earlier in the month the team was very competitive and brought home a seventh place finish. David is looking for a better result in Miami as the track is more suit ed to the Porsche's driving character. Tuaty explained, "Daytona is a fantastic track but those big high -banks tend to favor the higher horsepower cars, at Homestead the Boxster will be able to make better use of the tight infield turns to put us at the fr ont of the pack."
David Tuaty and co -driver Mark Underwood will have their work cut out for them as their class features some of the most competitive racing in the series. The Boxster will have to prove its mettle against such formidable competition as t he Acura Integra Type R, Lexus GS 400 and several BMWs. "Its not unusual for us to be rubbing doors looking for any advantage to gain a position." Stated Tuaty. He continued, "It's pretty stressful for us but the fans eat it up."
Putting this drive tog ether has taken considerable time and effort on David's part. Last season, David campaigned a Volkswagen Golf GTI in the Florida Region SCCA ITB class. David won the Endurance Championship in 1998 and captured 8 out of 9 Pole Positions on his way to 2 nd in the Southeast Division Endurance Championship Racing Series. He has continued his rapid development as he pursues his goal of driving for a factory racing team. David was the lead - driving instructor at the Sebring based TrackSpeed International driving school while also providing driving instruction on an individual basis.
David Tuaty and his Porsche Boxster are available for car & driver displays, corporate promotions, driving instruction and interviews.
