TAFEL RACING ANNOUNCES GRAND AM PROGRAM FOR 2007
CUMMING, Ga. -As Tafel Racing gears up for their third season of competition, team owner Jim Tafel has hardly had time to enjoy the success that the team had during its rapid growth over the last two seasons. Tafel and the entire team have been busy at their Cumming, Ga. shop preparing for the 2007 season of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve.
After finishing second in team points in the Rolex GT class of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve, Tafel Racing will be fielding a two-car effort this year that will include three of the drivers from their highly competitive 2006 season.
The # 74 Tafel Porsche GT3 Cup will be in the expert hands of Eric Lux of Buffalo, NY and German Wolf Henzler. Henzler, who was recently honored as the winner of the 2006 Porsche Cup, finished second last season in driver points in the Rolex Series, leading the Tafel team to five class victories along the way. Lux, a student at Jacksonville University in Florida, has been racing professionally since he was 16. In 2006 he finished 4th in driver points in the Rolex Series.
The sponsor of the # 74 will be Rembrandt Charms, a New York based business that has been designing and manufacturing charms and charm bracelets for over forty years.
The # 72 Tafel entry will be driven by Nathan Swartzbaugh of La Habra Heights, CA and Andrew Davis of Bogart, Ga. Davis, an accomplished driving instructor and personal driving coach, returns to Tafel for his third straight season. He finished 6th in driver points in the 2006 Rolex season. Swartzburgh is the newcomer to the Tafel Racing team, but he has been racing competitively in different areas of racing for many years, while still only being 21 years old. In 2006 Nathan won the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge Championship, a series which is all about the skill of the drivers as they compete in identically prepared Porsche GT3 cars.
The # 72 will be sponsored North-South Machinery and its affiliates.
Vice President and Technical Director Tony Dowe sees this as a driver lineup that can produce great results for the team in the new season. "Jim and I are delighted to have brought together this combination of experience and youth. The pairings will be very strong. To have Eric Lux, who is continuing to build on his 2006 season, teamed with a driver of the caliber and experience of Wolf Henzler should produce a great result. To also have Andrew Davis, who has been a consistently strong competitor, sharing a car with Nathan Swartzbaugh who was the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge champion last year, will provide us with a very strong double challenge towards the 2007 championship honors"
