Atlanta, Georgia, April 25, 2005) -- SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI) has introduced a new corporate logo that is beginning to be incorporated on building signs, advertising, marketing materials, suntrust.com and all other company communications. Signs will be rolled out geographically over the next 24 months. The new logo features a new "sunburst" graphic above the SunTrust name.

According to Craig Kelly, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for SunTrust, the new logo provides an updated look and greater uniformity to the company's identity in all marketing channels. In the retail branch setting, the new signs will make branches more distinctive and easier to find in a cluttered sign environment.

"The addition of the sunburst design to the familiar SunTrust name brings a new energy to our logo," said Mr. Kelly. "It provides a more complete representation of the character of our company -- warmth, energy and a comprehensive financial services institution. The new logo will be more visible and distinctive in our highly competitive marketing environment, and will invite a new focus on the breadth and depth of SunTrust's capabilities."

Installation of the new signs will begin with the conversion of recently merged National Bank of Commerce and Central Carolina Bank branches and office buildings in April, primarily in Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and expand across the company's footprint in phases over the next two years.

"With the addition of over 400 retail branches through our recent merger with National Commerce Financial, the timing is ideal to introduce and begin phasing-in our new logo design," said Mr. Kelly.J The new livery on the SunTrust Pontiac Riley Mk.XI race car will debut at the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race on April 29-May 1 at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track in Laguna Seca, California, outside of beautiful Monterey.

b^0x001cIt was difficult to make the change since we have gained worldwide exposure with the black-and-yellow design scheme," said John Mauney, Senior Vice President, Director of Marketing Services for SunTrust Bank. "We believe the new design is stunning and will continue to complement the black and white of the checkered flag in victory lane."
