July 22, 2013 - Beginning with the Brickyard Grand Prix this weekend, Starworks Motorsport will move to BMW Power in their two Daytona Prototype racing cars to increase the brace of BMW Rileys in GRAND-AM’s top field to six.

Based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Starworks Motorsport raced with BMW Power in 2008 through 2010. The team was the winner of the inaugural Brickyard Grand Prix last season, capturing the 2012 North American Endurance Championship – a three-race championship-within-a-championship awarding $100K to the top finisher at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen and the Brickyard Grand Prix. The #2 Starworks Motorsport Riley is currently co-leading the Rolex Series team championship on 194 points and is fifth in the North American Endurance Championship (DP class).

Peter Baron, Starworks Motorsport Team Owner: “We have always had a good relationship with BMW of North America. There is a dynamic change coming with the series integrating next year and we are looking for a partner and people we could work with long term. It is mid season, but we felt that the time was right to add BMW Power.”

Gordon McDonnell, BMW NA Motorsports: ““We are excited to welcome Starworks Motorsport back to the BMW Power family. Our discussions with Peter and Alex (Popow) over the last weeks were extremely positive allowing us to make this partnership happen quickly. Starworks is having an excellent season to-date and I’m positive that we can help them continue. Dinan Motorsports played an enormous role in getting the engines built in time for Indianapolis and I want to thank Steve and his team for making this happen in such a short amount of time.”

Steve Dinan, Dinan Cars: “We are excited to have Starworks on the BMW program again. The Starworks organization has had a lot of success in the last couple of years and I am sure they will be an asset to the BMW racing family.”

Alex Popow, #2 Starworks: “I feel very happy to start a relationship with BMW who is, as we all know, a very strong manufacturer and what we need to keep fighting for this championship. I'm very confident that with BMW we will be celebrating our first win soon.”

Ryan Dalziel, #2 Starworks: “I am really happy about Starworks making this move. We had a great relationship with Dinan and BMW in the past and feel strongly that this is the best decision we can make for our championship assault. The latest generation 4.5L BMW engine is a really exciting package and we are ready to get our first win of 2013 and bring home a championship.”

The three-hour Brickyard Grand Prix Rolex Series race, held on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Friday, July 26, 2013 4:00 PM ET, marks the beginning of the second half of the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series and the last race in the NAEC.
