Spirit of Daytona Racing ready for 2013 Grand-Aa finale at Lime rock

Spirit of Daytona Racing targets a positive performance in the final Rolex Series event having long participated in GRAND-AM competition.

Daytona Beach, Fla. (25 September 2013) – When Spirit of Daytona Racing arrives at Lime Rock Park with the No. 90 VISITFLORIDA.com Corvette DP for the final race of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series this weekend, the event won’t just close out the season but also an era. With the series set to merge into the United SportsCar Championship next year, Spirit of Daytona Racing targets a positive performance in the final Rolex Series event having long participated in GRAND-AM competition.

And the 1.53-mile “bullring” Connecticut circuit may be just the place to capture the team’s elusive victory this season. Spirit of Daytona Racing drivers Richard Westbrook and Ricky Taylor both saw success in last year’s race with Taylor taking the victory for SunTrust Racing and Westbrook claiming the pole and finishing runner-up for Spirit of Daytona Racing while co-driving with Antonio Garcia.

In fact, Taylor is undefeated at Lime Rock Park – having won the 2010, 2011 and 2012 events with co-driver with Max Angelelli.

Spirit of Daytona Racing has not had the season that the team had hoped for this year with various setbacks of bad racing luck thwarting the group’s podium potential in several races. The Spirit of Daytona squad most recently finished on the podium in the third race of the year at Barber Motorsports Park and would like nothing more than to return to the podium with a strong performance in the season-finale event.

“I think we saw a glimmer of what this group is capable of with the pole position at Laguna, but unfortunately that didn’t turn into something more for us last time out,” said team owner Troy Flis. “We’ve been fortunate to compete in the Rolex Series and in GRAND-AM for a long time, so it is a little sad to see that era closing but then again we are all very excited about what is about to happen with our sport, so hopefully we can head into the future with a head of steam with a good finish on Saturday.”

The Championship Weekend at Lime Rock Park will see a condensed two-day schedule with two practice sessions on Friday which are set to take place from 12:15 PM – 1:15 PM (ET) and 2:25 PM – 2:50 PM (ET). Qualifying is set for Saturday morning at 9:20 AM (ET) ahead of the 2.75-hour race on Saturday which will go green at 1:35 PM (ET).
