RUM BUM RACING MONTREAL POST RACE REPORT
Hawthorne, August 6, 2008 -- Rum Bum Racing co-drivers Gene Sigal and Matt Plumb finished 13th in the Montreal 200 last Friday, August 1 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve located on the Ile Notre Dame of Montreal Canada.
Gene Sigal qualified 13th the morning of the race in a qualifying session that was one of the best of his DP career, confirming the progress he is making knowing the ultra competitive field.
The Montreal Rolex Series event for DP and GT was a 200 mile race with a two hour time limit, making it one of the shortest races of the season. Gene took a good start and since he had a fast car he tried to pass cars but the Canadian track is one of the toughest to do that on and after attempting multiple overtaking maneuvers over drivers ahead of him, Gene had to use his brake a little too much! By the end of the stint the # 7 Rumbum.com / Big Vision Miami / Caramba Tequila ran out of brakes and this is one of the reasons why the team had to pit a little too early.
Matt Plumb took over after 32 minutes and quickly found out that he had a difficult race ahead of him because of the brake issue. Matt drove a great race and did his best to preserve the equipment until the end of the race. Despite passing some cars throughout his stint, Matt was never in contention to race with the leaders and had to finish 13th.
The Rum Bum Racing team will try to forget the Montreal race quickly and will focus on the Crown Royal 200 scheduled to be raced next Friday night on the short course of the Watkins Glen International Raceway in New York State. The team was able to test at that facility just after the June six-hour race and ended up the fastest car of the open test day.
Despite this disappointing Montreal result, the team stays in the top ten of the 2008 team point standings, in tenth place.
WATKINS GLEN PREVIEW: RUM BUM RACING IN SHAPE FOR OLYMPICS NIGHT!
The Rum Bum Racing team co-drivers Gene Sigal and Matt Plumb are ready for the upcoming Crown Royal 200 Watkins Glen International Raceway short course race to be run on Olympics opening night Friday, August 8.
The Crown Royal 200 is the second race of the year where the Rolex Series will share the track with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series which always bring a large crowd to the Glen road course.
After a disappointing race last Friday in Montreal, the crew has worked non-stop to prepare the #7 Rumbum.com / Big Vision Miami / Caramba Tequila Dinan BMW Riley for this Watkins Glen event.
"I really like Watkins Glen short course. We tested there after the six hour race last June and I felt good in the car. Our car was fast. Our engineers did a good job and we finished the open test fastest of the day with most of the top teams there. I am really looking forward to this race" announced Rum Bum Racing team owner and co-driver Gene Sigal.
"Our team is now rankedtenth in the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series team point standings. This is not exactly where we need to be but we have four races left in 2008 to come back closer to the top five in points. I like the fact that we are racing with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series since it brings many more people to the race. On Thursday night our team will have a booth at the NASCAR Fever in Corning and we will be the only Rolex Series team featured there. I will be signing autographs with Matt Plumb between 8:30 and 9 PM and we are very happy about this promotion for Rum Bum" added Sigal.
The Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen International Raceway next Friday, August 8 will be televised on Speed the same day at 8:00 PM ET.
