JOEY HAND TO CO-DRIVE WITH AUBERLEN ANDALHADEFF AT SIX HOURS OF THE GLEN
Los Angeles, May 8, 2007: American driver Joey Hand, 28, from Sacramento, California will co-drive the 05 Luggage Express Team Sigalsport BMW with Bill Auberlen and Matt Alhadeff at the upcoming Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen scheduled for Saturday, June 9. This race will mark Hand's first racing experience in a Daytona prototype car.
This would be Joey Hand's second race with Sigalsport BMW. Hand co-drove a BMW M3 GT last year at the Six Hours of the Glen with Alhadeff and Auberlen. With 14 podium finishes in two seasons, including six GT class wins, Hand is one of the most successful Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series drivers. Hand claimed his first Rolex Series GT victory at Watkins Glen in 2004.
Since 2006, Joey's primary program is in the ALMS. In 2006 he scored three ALMS podium finishes co-driving a BMW M3 with Bill Auberlen and in 2007 Hand co-drives a Panoz GT in the ALMS also with Auberlen. Joey's best ever Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series season was in 2005 when he claimed four Rolex Series GT victories as a BMW factory driver; California Speedway, Mont-Tremblant, Daytona and Barber. The same year he finished fifth in Rolex Series GT driver point standings. He won his first ever Grand-Am race in 2005 racing the BMW M3 with co-driver Boris Said. He finished sixth in the 2005 GT point standings.
"I am excited to compete in my first Daytona Prototype race" announced Joey Hand. "Sigalsport BMW is one of the Rolex Sports Car Series contenders and racing again with Bill Auberlen and Matt Alhadeff is an experience I look forward to. I am proud that Gene Sigal selected me for this event. I think we can do very well" added Joey.
Before shifting his career towards sports cars racing, Joey hand raced in the Toyota Atlantic championship in 2001, 2002 and 2003 where he won two races and scored eight podium finishes.
"I am very pleased that Joey Hand can join our team for this endurance race" announced Luggage Express Sigalsport BMW team owner, Gene Sigal. "Joey raced for us last year when he was a BMW factory driver. Our team is the only DP team using a BMW engine in the 2007 Rolex Sports Car Series and I am sure that Joey will do a great job for us. He and Bill have raced together in the same team for the past four seasons and I expect Joey, Bill and Matt to be extremely competitive at Watkins Glen" said Gene.
Joey Hand tested the 05 Luggage Express Team Sigalsport BMW at Buttonwillow, California last month to prepare for the Glen endurance challenge. He worked on the setup with Bill, Matt and the Sigalsport engineers and was able to experience the V8 Dinan BMW engine.
The Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen will be broadcast live on Speed TV at 11:00 AM ET on Saturday, June 9.
