ROB FINLAY AND MICHAEL VALIANTE CONTINUE TO CLOSE GAP ON THE TEAM POINT STANDINGS
MOORESVILLE, NC (August 22, 2006) - With twelve races of their Daytona Prototype rookie season behind them, the driving duo of Rob Finlay and Michael Valiante continue to challenge for a top-five finish in the Grand American Rolex Series Presented by Crown Special Reserve team point standings. Sitting in the 7th position with 327 points, Finlay and Valiante are well within reach of moving into the top-five with a good result at this weekend's 250-mile contest at Infineon Raceway.
Finlay and Valiante's teammates Memo Gidley and Michael McDowell currently occupy the fifth spot with 345 points as the team rivalry heats up heading into Saturday's race. "We've just been trying to finish races and stay out of trouble," said Rob Finlay. "The results so far have been pretty consistent and if we can keep it going I think finishing in the top-five is an achievable goal."
The Finlay Motorsports team- based out of Mooresville, North Carolina has scored an impressive eight top-10 finishes thus far this season but would like to end the season with a podium result. The driving duo of Finlay and Valiante last competed at Watkins Glen International Raceway where the No. 5 Make-A- Wish/Z-Line Designs - sponsored machine crossed the finish line in fifth position, giving the team their second top-five result of the season.
"We were able to score a top-five finish at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago and nearly stood on the podium so we're really looking forward to this weekend. With only two races remaining in the season our goal will be to finish in the top-three and to brake into the top-five in the Rolex Series team point standings. The Grand American Rolex Series will once again share the limelight with the Indy Racing League.
