Rum Bum Racing Ready for Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen, NY-3 June 2010 - Rum Bum Racing will look to return to another Gatorade Victory Lane this Saturday, this time at famed Watkins Glen in upstate New York. Saturday's Continental Tire 150 will mark round six of the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship.
The race comes hard on the heels of last Saturday's Memorial Day Classic, where drivers Gian Bacardi and Matt Plumb set the pace with the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3, only to see thier day end early after suffering contact while fighting for position.
Plumb and Bacardi, who will add yet another new internationally-recognized track to his racing resume this weekend, tuned up for the weekend with some time in Skip Barber Mazdas ahead of the event. The race will utilize the long 3.4-mile "Grand Prix" course, which winds through the hills and is a drivers delight with the climbing esses, the boot, and the high-speed "bus stop" chicane all combining for a thrilling race lap.
The weekend opened with a promoter test day on Thursday, giving Bacardi the opportunity to get comfortable with the BMW M3 on the new track. Bacardi's quick laps and quick adaption to the track, teamed with Plumbs previous mastery of the track are two key elements to the weekend.
But a secret weapon might be in the form of crew chief Joe Varde. The Florida native has seen and done it all at Watkins Glen, from qualifying a NASCAR Cup car for his first stock-car start at the top of the NASCAR ranks, to sealing a Motorola Cup (which became the Continental Tire Challenge) championship in 2000 with a win at the Glen.
The times on the Thursday promoter test day were not released, but the team is confident after a productive day at the track, and is looking forward to Friday.
