Best Qualifying of the Season for Atterbury
Mitchum Motorsports Starting 13th at Watkins Glen
WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 4, 2010) - Joey Atterbury grabbed his highest qualifying position of the season with a time of 2:05.671 for tomorrow's GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race. With 30 cars qualifying at the same time, Atterbury managed to find enough clear track to lay down a solid lap.
Joining Atterbury at Watkins Glen is past race winner, David Murry. The two drivers will share responsibilities behind the wheel during the 2.5 hour race. Atterbury will be starting the race with Murry taking over in the latter half. Both drivers are optimistic for the race and expect to be able to drive the car up through the field over the course of the race.
Team Mitchum Motorsports worked on the car setup throughout the day, fine tuning it to maximize the performance of the Chevrolet Camaro. "The team worked really hard to get a solid setup. We made improvements throughout the day and we ended up in a good spot where I was able put down a solid lap", said Atterbury. "Obviously we would love to be starting closer to the front but I am pleased with our highest starting spot of the season so far."
Team principle, Chris Mitchum, was also happy with the efforts of Joey and the team. "We rolled the car out of the hauler and struggled a little bit so we made adjustments before and during each session, trying to really maximize the potential of the car", noted Mitchum. "The ultimate pace of the car still needs improvement, but our race pace will be very consistent and we think that will be our strength."
