Burrows and Hopwood Bring Kia Another Solid Finish at Watkins Glen
Former Champs back up race-leading LRP event with solid Watkins Glen outing
Watkins Glen, NY (5 June 2010)-- Trevor Hopwood and Adam Burrows extended their consecutive finishes streak on Saturday as the duo brought the No. 12 Kia Motors/Infinity Audio Kia Forte Koup home in 12th place for a sixth straight GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race. Driving the classic Grand Prix course at Watkins Glen International for Kinetic Motorsports, the duo entered the race weekend with plenty of momentum after leading the race and scoring a season-best finish of fifth at Lime Rock Park last weekend.
Burrows opened the race from 18th on the grid, and moved as high up as fourth in the running before turning the car over to Hopwood. Rejoining the fray deep in the pack, the New Hampshire resident kept a strong pace through his full race distance as he clawed his way forward in the order.
The Koup kept clicking off the laps, but a full course caution late in the day meant that the race ended under a yellow flag, keeping Hopwood from making it up to the top ten at the finish. But the result moved the duo to seventh in the team championship standings as the Kia Motorsport program continues to set new benchmarks.
"We knew that this track wasn't going to be perfectly suited for this Kia Forte Koup, so to come out of here with a finish just out of the top ten is another solid day for us," said Hopwood. "During my stint, the car felt the best that it had all weekend, and it was really handling well. We learned a lot today in the race and we'll hopefully put that to good use in a few weeks at Mid-Ohio."
"These two races (at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen) have been very good weekends for us and with another finish under our belts, we are looking forward to a strong second half of the season," said Burrows. "The Kinetic guys gave us a great car once again and we keep improving every weekend. Our brakes are outstanding. We are looking forward to Mid-Ohio because it will play to the strengths of the Koup."
