Rounds seven, eight, and nine of the Grand-Am Cup will occur in the next 5 weeks. This is where excellent preparation by the team will be crucial.
Overseeing the prep of the #40, #41, #42 and #44 King Motosports Acura Integras will be HRPworld. Racing Crew Chief Mike Thomas. Mainly responsible for the preparation though is Trevor Whipple, and the team's newest full-time crewmember, Bill Hennesey.
This year, the HRPworld.com - King Motorsports campaign has proven to be both reliable and speedy. This dual combination has landed Will and Wayne Nonnamaker in the lead in the Driver Championship and rookie driver Tony Nuzzo a comfortable 4th in the championship. The #41 & #42 HRPworld.com entries also sit 2nd and 3rd in the Team Championship.
"This is a very tight battle for the championship," said Whipple. "Bill Fenton Motorsports has been a very tough competitor this season. While our team was busy winning the STI Championship in 1999, they were claiming the 1999 STII Championship. Their drivers Bob Beede and Bill Fenton are both experienced and fast, and their team has remained intact, both their drivers and their crew, since their 99 Championship. It will be close, but I have confidence in our team and our drivers."
"This is such a tight battle for the Championship," added Will Nonnamaker. "I never dreamed we would be sitting here six races into the season with a win, four seconds, and a fourth, and be tied for the Championship."
"This is beginning to feel a lot like last year," added Wayne Nonnamaker. "Last year we fought HART down to the last race to win the Championship, and this is turning into the same fight. Last year after six races we had only a three point lead in the championship, and this year we are tied! I am looking forward to going back to Virginia though. It is the most enjoyable track to drive on the circuit."
The #40 King Motorsports Acura Integra Type R will compete this weekend at Virginia in the STI class with drivers Michiel Schuitemaker and Harold Linville. For the STII class, the team will enter 3 King Motorsports Integras. Drivers of #41 will be the brothers Wayne and Will Nonnamaker. #44 will have Tony Nuzzo and Don Velcio. The #42 will see the return of team founder Bill Pate in the starting slot. Tentatively, the finishing driver will be Wayne Nonnamaker.
