Bill Black Chevrolet to Sponsor Grand-Am Cup Street Tuner Six-Hour Enduro at VIR

Alton, Va. (September 27) -- Bill Black Chevrolet of Greensboro, N.C., one of the region's premier dealers of Chevrolet and Cadillac products as well as Featherlite trailers, will be the sponsor of the season-ending Grand-Am Cup Street Tuner six-hour endurance race at VIRginia International Raceway as part of the GT LIVE/Grand-Am Cup Weekend, October 6-8.

The Grand-Am Cup Series is the Grand American Road Racing Association's showcase for the latest in international and American-made high-performance sports cars, coupes and sedans straight from the dealer showroom floor. With major modifications permitted only in the area of safety, the Grand-Am Cup Series is home to the same cars seen on streets and highways around the world every day.

The Street Tuner (ST) class features a variety of sports cars and high-performance compacts that are as equally popular with Grand-Am Cup competitors as they are with today's consumers, including the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Acura RSX-S and TSX, Mazda RX-8, BMW 330, BMW Z4 and Mini Cooper S. Unlike the bigger Grand Sports (GS) class where V8s are allowed, ST cars are limited to four- and six-cylinder engines, although turbochargers and superchargers are permitted.

Driver, team and manufacturer championships will be up for grabs in both classes at VIR, all to be decided in the longest races in series history.

Bill Black Chevrolet has been a longstanding supporter of VIR, providing pace cars for the track and holding a corporate membership in the VIR Motorsports Country Club. Bill and his son, Stewart, are regular participants in the VIR Club's Member Driving Days as well as Sports Car Club of America races at VIR, and Bill is a 10-year veteran of Grand-Am Cup competition, in both the ST and GS classes. The father-and-son duo campaign a Cadillac CTS-V in the SCCA's Touring 2 class and a Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged in the SCCA's Showroom Stock C class.

"Bill Black Chevrolet has been a staunch supporter of VIR since the track reopened in 2000," said VIR general manager Josh Lief. "Bill is a true enthusiast of the sport, and his organization has been outstanding to work with. Bill and his company are an integral part of the VIR family, and we greatly appreciate their ongoing support. The GT LIVE/Grand-Am Cup Weekend is going to be one of the most exciting events in the track's history, and the Bill Black Chevrolet ST Six-Hour Enduro is going to be a nail-biter from the green flag to the checkered flag."

"We're excited to be sponsoring the Bill Black Chevrolet Street Tuner Six-Hour Enduro at VIR," said Bill Black. "The race is going to be fantastic, and we hope to see a Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged in victory lane! Our sponsorship of the race is a natural progression in our long-standing relationship with VIR. It is one of the finest racetracks in America, in addition to be one of the world's most beautiful racing facilities. We enjoy being members of the VIR Club, and it is a great place for us to entertain our clients. We're looking forward to a great weekend."

In addition to the Bill Black Chevrolet Street Tuner Six-Hour Enduro and the companion event for the GS class, the Wheel Enhancement GS Enduro presented by EMC Mechanical, the weekend will also include the first-ever east-coast appearance of GT LIVE, an interactive festival for tuner-car and sport bike enthusiasts that is the wave of the future for young motorsports enthusiasts.
