Heading North Huntingdon Valley, PA, July 27, 2001: There are two races left in the Grand Am Cup season as the Villaconn Motorsports team packs up and heads north of the border. The mission; to maintain winning form as the series opens for Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres on August 5th. The Grand Am Cup for showroom stock race cars will once again support the Rolex Sports Car Series for Sports Prototypes and GT racers.
Matt Connolly and Bransen Patch will no doubt be looking to add another victory to their resume following their first ever trip to the top of the podium earlier this month at Road America. Jonathan Bomarito and Jeff Trask join forces yet again. The pairing has run up front in every event they have entered and won't allow victory to elude them much longer. Al Villamil and Gregory White return to race action in the 2 hour, 30 minute race as well. Without a doubt, the competition is heating up as the season nears its end. Bob Endicott in the King Motorsports Acura can always be counted on to put pressure on the Villaconn squad. Team Lexus has worked steadily to improve their form over the course of the season and now present a major threat to the BMWs. And of course, the Speedsource Porsches cannot be counted out when it comes to race winning potential. The heat is definitely on in the Sport Touring category!
"The name of the game is constant improvement in every area of preparation and race craft," offers Jeff Trask. "The group that wins the team championship will be the one that doesn't sit still. With competition this good, you just can't leave any stone unturned." In addition to counting on the many number of people that make up the Villaconn Motorsports crew, the team relies on the continued support of their sponsors. Villaconn sponsors include HMS Motorsport, Urrea Tools, Wertner Signs, Chambersburg Waste and Paper and Viking Fibres.
