Daytona Beach, FL (8 January 07) - Valerie Limoges got her 2007 Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series season off to a quick start during the Daytona Test Days, posting strong lap times in every practice session she ran in the Blackforest Motorsports USG Sheetrock FR500c Ford Mustang GT. After a rookie season of highs and lows in 2006, Limoges is looking to up her game in 2007 and with a best lap time of 2:03.069-seconds around the 3.56-mile road course at Daytona International Speedway, showed she is well on her way.
"I am just a lot more confident now, coming to tracks where I already know my way around," said Limoges. "I learned a lot last year but in the end, I was disappointed with my results and I know I can do much better this year. I've been training constantly, and hopefully all that will pay off."
The 2006 season saw Limoges learning a years' worth of new tracks and a new field of competitors. Highlights included finishing first in the VIR event with co-driver David Empringham before being classified as tenth after a post-race penalty for an apparent pass under yellow, and then later in the year sharing the lead with co-driver Alex Tagliani in their 'home' event at Trois-Rivieres. Limoges finished 18th out of over 100 drivers in the 2006 championship, but will be looking for better in 2007.
"This is an important year for me and I'm glad we got things off to a good start here in Daytona," said Limoges. "I had a nice holiday with my family back home in Canada but all I could think about was getting back in the car and going fast!"
The Mustang FR500c has a strong record at the Daytona, having scored a victory with Tom Nastasi taking the machine over the finish line in the Mustang's' Koni Challenge debut in 2005, something Limoges will be looking to do herself this year when she returns to Daytona in three weeks time to contest the opening round of Koni Challenge competition.
