TURNER HOPING HOT STREAK STAYS ALIVE IN UTAH
MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK, Tooele, UT - This weekend the Turner Motorsport BMW race team returns to a track that has been very kind to them on every occasion. The Miller Motorsports Park outside of Salt Lake City, Utah has hosted the Grand-Am Koni Challenge series since 2006 and a Turner BMW has taken top honors in 4 of the 5 races -- a GS class win the last two years and the GS and ST wins in 2006. All three Turner Motorsport BMWs have something to live up to for the 2009 round at Miller Motorsports Park and you can catch the race live at the track or on The Speed Channel, October 3rd at 1:30pm ET.
Last year saw Turner Motorsport take the win in the GS class in the #96 Motul Lubricants/StopTech Brakes BMW M3. Bill Auberlen is back behind the wheel in this car and co-driving with Matt Bell, winner of the last race at Trois-Riviers, Quebec as well as the season-opener at Daytona. Bell is currently fourth overall in the standings and still in the hunt for the GS Championship trophy.
Posing a serious challenge to their effort will be teammates Chris Gleason and Joey Hand in the #97 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW M3. Gleason is also holding title hopes alive from fifth place in the Championship. Contributing to his strong season has been a win at Lime Rock Park and podium finishes at New Jersey and Watkins Glen.
Altogether, the Turner Motorsport M3s have scored three wins in 2009 at Daytona, Lime Rock, and Trois-Rivieres with a win coming in the ST class at Laguna Seca. And a Turner driver has in the top five 12 times this year, including the ST drivers.
In the ST class, Paul Dalla Lana and Will Turner will pilot the #95 H&R Springs/Borla Exhaust BMW 328i in the ST class. The Dalla Lana-Turner combination have been consistent performers all season, scoring top ten finishes in five of seven races, including a win at Laguna Seca.
Will Turner, team owner, winner of the 2006 ST class race: "We like to see Miller Motorsports Park on the schedule because it suits our cars very well. The track has a lot of long, fast, and sweeping corners and our H&R BMWs are hooked up well. Historically, we've done very well here and at the next race at Virginia Raceway. We've won 4 races here and clinched championships at Virginia so we're upbeat as we head into the final two races of the season."
